Senior Pastor - John Dunaway
I am John Dunaway. I have been the pastor at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church since February 26, 1989. I came from Vienna Baptist Church in southern Indiana, where I served while I was attending seminary in Louisville, KY. I have also pastured at First Baptist Church in Flora, IN and at Browns Valley Missionary Baptist Church just west of Crawfordsville, IN. I was impressed by the Lord to go into fulltime Christian Service in 1981. I entered the Southern Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY in the fall of 1985. When I finished my seminary work I accepted my position here as senior pastor. I was ordained the following June (1989) by the American Baptist Churches of Greater Indianapolis.
My wife, Ellen, and I have eight children (3 boys and 5 girls). Our first four children were born into our family. Our last four were adopted - two local and two from Haiti. We have 1 daughter-in-law, 3 sons-in-law, 5 granddaughters & 3 grandsons.
My dream for Mt. Pleasant has always been to lead our church family in a healthy spiritual journey, pleasing to the Lord. My hope is that you will find Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church as a place where you would like to serve the Lord. A place to Belong and a place to Become....

My name is Marie Gourley. My husband Jacob and I relocated to Indanapolis from Seattle, Washington in October 2005. We both spent most of our lives in the Pacific Northwest. Prior to our move, I was a personal lines insurance underwriter. We have 3 amazing sons, Ian, Aaron, and Eli. We have been privileged to worship at Mt. Pleasant since the Spring of 2006. In January 2008 I was called into children's minsitry. I am passionate about serving our Lord and equipping others to do the same. I am fortunate to work with a visionary leadership team and a committed volunteer base.
Our children's ministries are focused on teaching the Biblical truth and connecting kids to Christ. We are passionate about the children; those who regularly attend and those who don't. If you are seeking a place where God's word from the first letter to the last letter is the absolute authority in all matters, and children and families are encouraged to innovate and be the individuals God created them to be, then Mt. Pleasant may be the place for you. We sure hope so!

Director of Music Ministry - Dena Shomali
I am Dena Shomali and I am the Music Director and pianist for Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. I have had an avid love for music since the early age of 4. My parents have always been very heavily involved with music in the church. I am a graduate of the University of Indianapolis with a Bachelor of Science in Music. I have an extensive music background that includes performances with Ballet's and Orchestra, Musical Theatre, and several choral groups and solo acts. I am also a private voice and piano teacher, a studio musician and now Music Director! I am also a member of the Indianapolis Arts Chorale. Through all of my education and experience, I have learned that nothing is as sweet and satrisfying as bringing glory to God through a gift He has given me
Outside of salvation, there is no greater gift that the Lord could have given to me than my family. The most wonderful husband in the world just happens to be mine. Jerry and I have two beautiful children, a young son named Blake and a baby daughter named Rose. Our children are a joy and a blessing!
My vision for the Music Ministry at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church is to head in a direction that first serves and adheres to the Lord ,and second, ministers to the lost, and third, brings togetherness and joy to the body of Christ. There is power in the music. I invite you to come and feel the power of the Lord through the music at Mt. Pleasant.
